Easy Actionable Weight Loss Tips
Easy Actionable Weight Loss Tips
So, the fad diets and power fasting have left you in the same shape as when you started? You’re not the only person who tried these plans and failed. Some people even end up gaining weight after they go off the ineffective plans. There are few people who are successful in diets that are not backed by nutrition and healthy eating.
Here are some easy ways you CAN use to lose weight and keep it off.
Drink more water
Ok, I know everyone tells you to drink more. But water is boring, right? That’s one of the main reasons people don’t drink enough water, especially when they’re dieting.
You can make drinking water less tortuous by adding some flavor! Add ginger, cucumber, strawberries or grapefruit to make your water a tasty treat!
Know your limits with salt
Choose snacks that are TRULY low in sodium. This means 140 mg or less in each serving.
Check your weight frequently
It’s important to know when your diet is working and when it isn’t. If you notice a day or two where you add weight or don’t lose any, you may need to exercise more or cut back on your meals and snacks. Use a scale that shows ounces. You shouldn’t be gaining or losing a pound or more every day.
Get your sweet tooth in check
If you get those sugar cravings that won’t leave you alone, you can satisfy it without adding tons of calories. Think fruit, like sliced apples with almond or peanut butter, instead of candy or cookies.
Cut back on alcohol
One mixed drink can add hundreds of calories to your daily intake – and cocktails won’t quench your thirst. Try to steer yourself towards an occasional light beer or glass of wine. Many of these types of options have 100 calories or less.
Take a steam
Steam rooms may run up to 114 degrees F. The sweat will help you lose weight, although it IS mostly water weight. Exercising is great, too, since it sheds fat.
Munch on foods rich in minerals
Calcium, potassium and magnesium help offset your low sodium diet. Orange foods like melon, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes and, yes, oranges, along with tomatoes and bananas help you bust the bloat. Cauliflower, seeds & nuts and low-fat dairy foods also offer benefits to your overall health, like controlling your blood sugar and lowering your blood pressure.
Reduce your carbs
Low-carb diets are often effective, since carbohydrates provide calories along with micronutrients. Carbs are found naturally in grains, and some vegetables, fruits, milk and legumes. Choose low carb options.
Choose to snack in a smart way
It usually threatens a diet if you graze between your scheduled meals. But if you have healthy snacks and smaller, more frequent meals, that’s a healthier choice than binging on junk food. Choose snacks that are protein-packed and filling, like a bit of peanut butter on fruit or one piece of string cheese.
Don’t skip meals
Many fad diets advise skipping meals. This doesn’t help you to lose weight any faster. If you don’t have time to sit for a meal, grab some fruit or an energy bar. Keep them in your gym bag, purse, desk or locker. Use these healthy choices to keep you from those mid-afternoon energy crashes.
When you don’t eat for extended periods, this tells your body to SAVE fat, by slowing your metabolism, since it realizes you’re not taking in enough calories. You’ll be more prone to binging, too.
Eating smaller meals and allowing yourself healthy snacks is healthier. Don’t go three or four hours without eating anything. You can even set an alarm for snack time on your smartphone.
Eat enough fiber to fill you up
Fiber consumption is vital for the prevention of chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. Eating foods that are rich in fiber will also allow you to feel fuller for a longer period of time, so that helps you lose weight. Most people only eat 50% of the fiber their bodies need. As long as you include veggies and fruits in your diet, it won’t be difficult to get the fiber your body needs.
Eat lots of protein
One of the most important parts of a successful diet is getting enough protein. When your meals and snacks are high in protein, it can boost your metabolism by up to 100 calories a day. In addition, protein satiates your appetite, allowing you to eat 441 LESS calories per day. You can even lose weight without cutting back on anything, just by including enough protein.
